  • Light Coming through blocks - MCX360: Discussion - Minecraft Forum
Ever since the new update I have a dark room for my mob spawner and mushroom room and somehow light keeps shining through ? There are no open blocks every hole is filled and idk how light is coming in there are also no torches inside at all Can someone help or tell em how they fixed it Or if anyones experienced this problem
  • Question about light - Discussion - Minecraft Forum
This also means that light only propagates 14 blocks, not 15, from such blocks before dropping to zero, and 13 from a torch; the maximum distance to which they will prevent hostile mob spawning are 7 and 6 blocks (15-8 and 14-8) from the center block
  • light source that isnt a block entity - Minecraft Forum
Torches are blocks, not block entities, and the only way I can see them causing lag is from the particles, and you can turn them off if that is a problem and even then you'd need a lot of torches in a small area (e g a Superflat world with a layer of torches; the game also only renders particles for a short distance so torches far away won't cause any issues); and to a much lesser extent
  • Sources of Lights That Doesnt Melt Ice - Minecraft Forum
Lights in Minecraft are broken down into two types: the sun and everything else If the placeable light source level is 12 or above, ice will melt Enemy mobs spawn at light level 7 or lower The only light source weak enough to place near ice, redstone, only generates a light level of 7 so it won't be enough to prevent mob spawns
  • Colorful Lighting Mod - Minecraft Mods - Mapping and Modding: Java . . .
+ Updated the light values of the existing light emitting blocks + Added 7 colorful redstone torches + Added 6 colors of stained glass + Secret Recipes! For those that know how to decompile minecraft with a mod installed, you can add blocks that emit colorful light by replacing the setLightValue calls with setLightValueRGB
  • Spawning rules for passive mobs (cows, chickens, pigs, etc. )
Blocks they spawn on must be grass blocks, with light level 9 or higher (fully open to the sky is fine, or lit with torches glowstone jack o'lanterns should work too) With multiple eligible blocks, the "highest" block in a column of blocks gets preference for spawning; No player can be within 24 blocks of the block
  • Preventing Mob Spawns - Survival Mode - Minecraft Forum
4-5 blocks is extreme overkill; a torch has a light level of 14 and drops by one per block, so its light travels up to 6 blocks before dropping below 8, or a span of 13 blocks Due to the light pattern you can't place them in a square grid however; the optimal pattern is a diamond pattern with alternate rows offset by half the spacing, like this:
  • Proximity sensor floor lights with command blocks - Minecraft Forum
this light system will turn on lights whenever a player is within a specified radius of a command block (2 blocks bellow the redstone lantern) this system is ideal for floor lights this is as compact as I could get it but if you find a more compact way, post it here I attached pictures here to explain
  • Can a slime spawn on a block that has a redstone torch on it?
If you are lighting up a slime chunk, use regular torches since slimes spawn in any light level underground and a redstone torch only emits light level 7, so other mobs will spawn that said, the Wiki seems to indicate that slimes can spawn on torches, or any other non-solid block (blocks you can move through):
  • Why do these random light sources happen? - Minecraft Forum
As for intentionally making invisible light, the best way would probably be to use a mod that adds an invisible light block, or perhaps use a texture pack to make torches invisible (a list of all light-emitting blocks can be found here; most are not suitable though because they are solid, harm the player, or don't emit enough light)
